Programs
The Center houses over 10 programs, projects, and services that reach out to the LGBTQ and allied communities. The Center is led by a 10-member board of directors and utilizes hundreds of community volunteers each year. Incorporated in 1996 as a community-based, non-profit, 501(c)3 agency, The Center has more than 10 years of experience as a health and human services agency. In 2005, The Center provided direct services to more than 40,000 community members through its events, activities and advocacy, and touched the lives of thousands more.
Ingersoll Gender Center
Ingersoll Gender Center supports transgendered people towards growth and well being.We provide support, education, advocacy and information resources for
people interested in gender identity issues, and for service providers, employers, families and friends in order to promote understanding, awareness and acceptance of gender diversity.
QArts
The Gallery within the Seattle LGBTQ Community Center is a unique art
space devoted to promoting and exhibiting the works of lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender and queer artists. QArts is the only program for
the education, appreciation and preservation of the fine arts in our
Seattle LGBTQ communities. Since we opened, we have hosted over 50
artist-in-residence shows, fostering new and acclaimed queer artists.
The Faygele benMiriam Lending Library
The Faygele benMiriam Lending Library features hundreds of books by Queer authors. Topics span the LGBTQ spectrum, including fiction and non-fiction works. Books are checked out for one-month intervals and the library is open during The Center's hours (subject to volunteer availability).
Resource & Referral Line
Our Resource & Referral Line is a 100% volunteer staffed phone-line and Welcome Center, 7-days a week, 10-11 hours a day - for anyone needing resources, local information,a kind ear, advice on where to hang on Friday night, where to find a job,groups to join, places to volunteer, or where to get LGBT healthcare,mental health services, or domestic violence help.
The Seattle LGBT Community Center mission is to provide opportunities and tools for LGBT individuals, organizations and communities that ensure their voices can be heard, included and affirmed; to be a place to engage, organize and effect change.
